NaSoWriMo 2014 -- Day 5

NaSoWriMo 2014 is off to a smashing start!  We will begin featuring participant songs later this week, so stay tuned - it might be you!  Let's get a bit dramatic today -- here's the prompt:

Write a song in which the "speaker" is your favorite character from a movie.

Can't wait to see what folks come up with!  Remember that you can join the challenge at any time this month.  And if you skip a day (or two), it's totally cool to just jump back in when you can.

NaSoWriMo 2014 -- Day 4

It's only day 4 and already you have given us so many great songs.

After watching this youtube video today we knew it was time to incorporate animals into our songwriting. This could be sampling the growling sound your cat makes when she gets her favorite food or a song about the birds on your porch. So get in touch with your spirit animal and make some music.

Write a song that features some sort of nonverbal vocalization (like ooh, ah, or lalala...or anything else that moves you).

NaSoWriMo 2014 - Day 1

Hello, music makers!

Here's this year's first songwriting prompt:

Write a musical love letter to an inanimate object.

Dear cell phone? Dear chain link fence? Dear can of beer?  It's up to you.  As always, the prompts are optional and you can always feel free to go your own way.

NaSoWriMo 2014 Begins Tomorrow!

So...this is it -- tomorrow is the launch of National Songwriting Month 2014! 

Your challenge is to write and record a song a day in the month of May.  You can share your songs via Sound Cloud or YouTube.  You can send us your info and we'll add you to our participant link list. If you skip a day (or two), no worries!  There is always time to jump back in.

We'll be posting one songwriting prompt a day here on the NaSoWriMo blog.  These prompts are not required.  They're here for inspiration or for those days when you're feeling a little stuck.  Feel free to use them for song ideas or just do your own thing!

Also, we will be checking out the official participant links daily so we can see what everyone is creating.  We'll feature a few participant songs every Friday here on the blog, so make sure you check in from time to time because it just might be you one day!
