NaSoWriMo Day 31

Today is the final day of National Songwriting Month 2013.  We're so grateful to everyone for writing, playing, and listening along with us!  This challenge wouldn't be a success without amazing participants like you.

For our final feature today, we wanted to share the NaSoWriMo 2013 SoundCloud group page.  If you haven't had a chance to listen to the collective work of our artists this month, please take some time to browse through these great sounds.

She's a NaSoWriMo veteran from 2012 and we know you're going to love what she's done this month.  Her sound is eclectic -- it defies categories.  Visit her SoundCloud page and see what we mean.

The month is winding down and with the long weekend, things got a little backed up here at the blog.  But never fear, we will try to post every day for the last remaining days.  Can't believe the month is almost over!

Here's a writing prompt in case you're in need of a creative boost:

Write a song about your astrological sign.  Yes, we strongly believe in horoscopes.  Do you?

If you haven't listened to the songs Marcus Morales has been writing this month, you must!  He's putting everything he's got into the challenge and we're just blown away each time we hear what he's done.  Awesome stuff!

NaSoWriMo -- Day 15 & Our First Featured Artist!

Hi everyone!

It's day 15 and we're almost over the halfway hill of National Songwriting Month 2013.  First, today's prompt, if you're looking for inspiration:

Write a song using an instrument you don't normally play.

That could shake things up and get us all out of our comfort zones.

Our first featured artist of the challenge is imnotdisco.  Each day he surprises and delights.  Some songs are full-on trance, some more like movie soundtracks, and others just pure electronic goodness.  Please click HERE to check out his songs and throw him some love!

Also, if you're using SoundCloud, make sure you're posting your NaSoWriMo songs to the NaSoWriMo SoundCloud group page -- click HERE for the group page!

We know we sound like a broken record (haha) but we are continually thankful to everyone who's writing and playing and listening and commenting along.  You all rock!

Peace,
Karen and RJ

Two Weeks In!

We're nearly to the halfway point of this year's songwriting challenge.  How have you been holding up?  RJ and I have realized that we're slightly crazy to try writing a song a day while we're in the midst of recording our new album.  We're finding that sometimes, there just aren't enough hours in the day.  That means that some days, the songwriting slides, and unfortunately, our blog updates, too.  We hope to be able to check in here on the blog daily from now until the end of the month.  We have some features in store as well.  Thanks for hanging in there with us.

Happy songwriting!

NaSoWriMo -- Day 8

A few observations on this eighth day of National Songwriting Month --
  • Our participants are really pushing their creative limits.  We're noticing lots of genre-crossing, which is always good for the creative soul.
  • We should really change the name of this endeavor to International Songwriting Month!  We're so glad to have many virtual friends from across the pond taking part.  Rock!
  • While it's sometimes difficult to fit in our daily songwriting (and sometimes we even have to skip a day...or two...) at least we're thinking about music.  And thinking about music every day is awesome.
We're calling a free space today, so no prompt.  Be free!!

Thanks again for your support in this!  Keep writing and sharing your songs!

NaSoWriMo 2013 -- Day 1

Aaaaaaaaand, we're back!

Welcome to National Songwriting Month!  The challenge is simple:  attempt to write a song a day in the month of May 2013.  Post your daily songs on your SoundCloud, YouTube, Facebook, etc. to share with other participants and the world.

We are so happy to see many newcomers as well as seasoned vets from last year.  Welcome one and all!

We've just updated our official list of participants here on the blog, so please check to make sure we have your correct information and links.  And remember to spread the word!  Songwriters can jump in the challenge any time.  The more the merrier!

We'll post daily songwriting prompts here.  If they inspire you, great!  If not, you can always go your own way.  Let's get started with a good old standby -- the love song.

Write a song about someone (or something) you love in this world.

Happy songwriting!!
